In the last publication of traffic & parking we posed a number of questions from the parking sector to traffic engineers. We now offer the answers.

1. When is the latest you can decide what sort of parking management and pay system will be used for a new development-at mud-map, preliminary or final design stage, during construction or just prior to opening?

At mud-map stage. The choice between manned or unmanned car park operation and the planned nature of the pay system will affect the appropriate number of entry and exit lanes, the overall car park design and the nature of the revenue and control system.

20. What is a typical read-error rate for a state-of-the-art number plate recognition employed in a parking environment?

5% although some systems can be "trained" to reduce error rates to as low as 3%.
