Congested urban environments, high demand on limited resources, and challenges with both mobility and access are all situations that those involved in parking find all too familiar. While I deal with parking on a university campus, I face the same parking challenges that exist in cities all across the country. Example: utilizing and managing parking inventory when potential demand exceeds space. At the University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin), where the customer base is defined, reachable, and motivated, a strong alternative transportation program has produced dramatic results.

The UT Share pass has proven to be very successful. Using standard technology and applying it to the challenges faced at UT-Austin, PTS established a program that will continue to keep our current users of alternative transportation vitalized and further develop our customer base. As the campus moves towards a more pedestrian-friendly environment and continues to expand at the expense of surface spaces, the UT Share Pass will play an even more important role in promoting and encouraging alternative transportation as a workable solution well into the future.
